ANNUAL FALL “DINNER”: What Happens When Economists Go Into the Political Kitchen?: A Conversation with Cecilia Rouse '86

Date:                  Friday, Friday November 3, 2023
Time:                  6:30pm Cocktail Party, 8:00pm Professor Rouse
Place:                 Pretty Brook Tennis Club, 229 Pretty Brook Rd, Princeton

Cecilia Elena Rouse A.B '86, Ph.D. '92 is the Katzman-Ernst Professor in Economics and Education at Princeton University. During the economically tumultuous first two years of the Biden-Harris administration, she served as Chair of the President's Council of Economic Advisers, confirmed by the Senate by a vote of 95-4.  Before this tour of duty in the White House (her third), she was dean of the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs. A labor economist with a focus on the economics of education, Rouse is the founding director of the Princeton Education Research Section and a member of the American Philosophical Society and the National Academy of Education. She will assume the presidency of the Brookings Institution in January 2024.

At Brookings, she will head a team of over 250 experts, fellows, and scholars who contribute to the national and international debate on topics ranging from economics to education, from energy and climate to politics and democracy, from local government to the most urgent crises in international relations.

Since this is our first major gathering post-Covid, we are departing from our traditional sit-down dinner.  To allow for more conversation and connection, we’ve moved to a cocktail party, passed hors d’oeuvres format.  (A meal's worth of appetizers.  Wine and beer are included.)

You’ll have time to renew old acquaintances and meet new friends while enjoying Chef Manuel Perez’s (Best Chefs America) delicious selections.  And then Jeff Laurenti will lead a Q&A style conversation with Professor Rouse.

Plan to stay after the Q&A for dialog and paella!
