Our HARVARD ENTREPRENEURS' BREAKFAST is an informal opportunity on the first Friday of every month for Harvard Alumni to meet, drink some joe, connect, and share ideas and opportunities.
Victor Lee, Harvard College '78, will lead the discussion about Artificial Intelligence – what it is and isn’t, how it works and how entrepreneurs can harness this new tool to enhance their businesses. Victor worked on early AI models at IBM in the 1990s and is the co-founder of an AI-powered startup - StoryQuotient: Are you telling your story well? AI knows.
As a Primer, Victor Provided This Glossary of Key Terms about AI
Artificial Intelligence (AI): computer systems that can perform tasks that typically require human intelligence, such as problem-solving, learning, decision-making, and understanding language.
Algorithm: A set of instructions or rules followed by AI systems (or any computer program) to perform a specific task or solve a problem.
Artificial General Intelligence (AGI): An advanced form of AI that possesses human-like intelligence and the ability to understand, learn, and apply knowledge across a wide range of tasks.
Deep Learning: A type of machine learning that utilizes artificial neural networks with multiple layers to recognize patterns and features in complex data, like images, speech and text.
Ethical AI: The consideration of moral and societal implications when developing and deploying AI systems to ensure fairness, transparency, and responsible use of AI technology.
Large Language Model: an AI model that has been trained on vast amounts of text data to understand and generate human-like language. It can process and generate text in various languages and perform a wide range of natural language processing tasks.
Machine Learning: A subset of AI that enables computers to learn and improve performance on tasks without being explicitly programmed. Machine learning algorithms learn from data and experience.
Natural Language Processing (NLP): A branch of AI that focuses on enabling computers to understand, interpret, and generate human language, allowing for tasks like speech recognition and language translation.
Supervised Learning: A type of machine learning where the algorithm is trained on labeled data, meaning the correct answers are provided during training to help the algorithm learn from the input-output pairs.
