Time:      8:00PM

Several times each year JazzNights invites some of world's best jazz artists to perform live in the intimate setting of private homes in the Princeton area. Never heard of JazzNights? That is because it advertises its concerts only by word of mouth and a private email list. The Harvard Club of Princeton is privileged to offer the opportunity for its members and their guests to attend one of these performances on Saturday, April 30th.

The Iris Ornig Quintet (otherwise known as "IO5") will be performing that evening and the group consists of Iris Ornig on bass; Jonathan Powell on trumpet; Jeremy Powell on tenor sax; Glenn Zaleski on piano; and Allan Mednard on drums.

Iris Ornig was educated in Switzerland and England and arrived in New York from her native Germany in 2003. Since then she has been all over the New York scene as leader of small groups and the director of the Monday night jam session at Kitano. Jonathan and Jeremy Powell are brothers and come to New York from South Florida. Both have studied with greats, played with greats, and received numerous fellowships and awards. Gramophone called their playing "Compelling!" Glenn Zaleski was a semi-finalist in the 2011 Monk Competition, and is now an established young pianist playing with Ravi Coltrane’s groups among others. Allan Mednard is a native New Yorker, was educated at CCNY where he studied with Carl Allen, and frequently appears with Aaron Parks, Dayna Stephens and Jaleel Shaw.

A block of tickets have been reserved for our members and guests for a limited time period after which we cannot guarantee ticket availability. Therefore, please purchase your tickets on or before this Thursday, April 21st.

JazzNights has been a labor of love since 2002 for Princeton residents and jazz aficionados Mary Wisnovsky, who has worked mainly in public relations and development for Princeton area non-profits, and Maitland Jones, a retired professor of chemistry at Princeton University who has lectured at Harvard University and is currently a professor of organic chemistry at New York University.
