DUKE FARMS BICYCLE TOUR

Join us for a leisurely bike ride with fellow alumni on the Duke Farms Estate. This free and family friendly event is sure to start your weekend off on the right note!

Date:   Saturday, November 1st, 2014
Time:       Meet at 10:30am
Place: Duke Farms, 1112 Dukes Parkway West, Hillsborough NJ

Join us for a relaxed bike ride at sprawling Duke Farms estate. Located on 2,740 acres on the Raritan River in nearby Hillsborough, this is one of the largest, privately-owned parcels of land in the state. J.B. Duke began purchasing the land in 1883, and between 1893 and 1925, transformed it to create an extraordinary landscape with nine lakes, 45 buildings, 35 fountains, sculpture gardens, 18 miles of paved roads, and over two million trees. Today, Duke Farms serves as a model of environmental stewardship and is committed to conservation, wildlife diversity, organic farming, environmental and horticultural education, and other initiatives that support a sustainable future.

We’ll meet at the entrance to the Orientation Center at 10:30 am. During the ride, we’ll stop off at the sculpture garden in the Hay Barn, the Orchid Range, the Coach Barn, and the Old Foundation, among others. We’ll also take a break to watch the Great Falls display. Please bring water, snacks, and a camera. Allow yourself plenty of time to unload and set up your bike before the start time. If you plan to rent a bike, please arrive a half hour early to complete the paperwork, and bring a credit or debit card. Cash is not accepted. Bike rentals are first come-first served and are only available for riders at least 5’ tall. The bike ride will be approximately 10 miles long.

All riders must wear a bike helmet while riding on the property. Hybrid bikes are best since we shall ride on paved and gravel trails.
