The New Jersey Supreme Court, long seen as one of the leading state courts in the nation, has been in the political cross-hairs in recent years as never before.  One of the fiercest battles in New Jersey's politics over the past three years has been the Governor struggle to re-cast the New Jersey Supreme Court in his own ideological image, and the State Senate's adamant resistance.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Stuart Rabner is leading the court in this turbulent time.  He grew up in Passaic and graduated summa cum laude from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University in 1982. He earned his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1985.

During his career he has served as New Jersey Attorney General, Chief Counsel to Governor Jon Corzine, and as a federal prosecutor at the US Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey.  Since 2007 he has served as Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court.
In 2007 Justice Rabner was named the #1 most influential political personality in the State of New Jersey and in 2010 he was proposed as a nominee to the US Supreme Court to replace Justice John Paul Stevens.
